In the newborn era, i.e. birth to one month, jaundice can present a severe issue as elevated levels of bilirubin, which is not water-soluble, can be decomposed into a harmless metabolism that is water-soluble, does not cross the blood-brain barrier and is quickly excreted in bile and urine and therefore does not accumulate.
This was accomplished by using typical phototherapy equipment to expose the newborn to strong light (about 4.5 microwatts/sq cm/nm) in the 420-480 nm wave length band. This has been one of SS TECHNOMED’s most important emphasis areas in the field of neonatology for many years. To overcome the limitations of fluorescent and CFL tubes, SS TECHNOMED has developed long-lasting, durable, more efficient, and cost-effective LEDs for jaundice therapy that emit more than twice the flux of traditional fluorescent and CFL tubes.
