When the power produced by a pressurized water reactor proves to be insufficient, it may be necessary to replace the reactor’s steam generators. For this very reason, Pronal has designed stoppers for steam generator replacement, therefore having the role of plugging the primary pipes. Biological protection measures can be implemented and the tips of pipes can now be safely decontaminated during steam generator replacements. These inflatable stoppers ensure that chemical solutions are contained during the oxidation-reduction phases of the primary pipes’ decontamination procedure. Temperatures will reach 98°C. Inflated by water to a pressure of 6 bar, they are capable of withstanding the pressure and the decontamination solution that may be employed (EMMA, EMMAC, LOMI, CANDECON & CITROX). These hydraulic stoppers have been designed for the 29″ and 31″ primary pipes, corresponding to the hot and cold branches. Our stoppers are in full compliance with the ALARA principle.
