Triangular shaped head with rounded ends. A scissor section is included in the jaw. The needle holding section of the jaw has cross sectional serrations and is horizontally opposed to the scissor section. The needle holding section is angled upwards from the scissors when the instrument is viewed in a flat cross section. Ring (scissor) handles on the shank, right handed. The right handed section of the shank is curved away from the left hand side. Screw joint. Gold plated handles indicate the jaws include tungsten carbide inserts. Overall length 160mm.
Tungsten carbide instruments are made of stainless steel with a layer of tungsten carbide bonded to the working surface. TC, next to diamond, is the hardest material, making it suitable for cutting and frequent grabbing of hard materials. TC instruments are very durable and can be used for frequent cutting and handling of hard substances without wear of the working surfaces. The handles are coated with a thin layer of gold to differentiate these from non-TC instruments.
