General information
IEHK Basic Units contain essential medicines and medical devices (dressing materials, minor equipment) for use by primary health care workers with limited training.
The Basic Malaria Module (KMEDKIAE01BM for basic unit) contains antimalarials for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria, rapid diagnostic tests are also included to confirm suspected cases of malaria.
Specifications
Each Basic Unit is calculated to cover 1000 people for a 3-month period, 10 Basic Units are included in each IEHK (KMEDKIAE01).
A Basic Unit contains essential medicines (oral and topical, but no injectables) and medical devices, including dressing materials and disinfectants, and some minor equipment. Simple treatment guidelines are also included in each unit.
A Malaria Module for a Basic Unit is also calculated to cover antimalarial treatments for 1000 people for a 3-month period. It contains artemether-lumefantrine, an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), and rapid diagnostic tests for malaria.
Before ordering a Malaria Module, ascertain with local health authorities that artemether-lumefantrine is part of local malaria treatment protocols, if not, ensure that importation will be permitted.
