Michel»s fixative solution is used to preserve and transport immunofluorescence specimens for analysis. Specimens can be held at room temperature for five days in transport medium before processing. This simple salt solution keeps the pH stable but does not kill most pathogens. Specimens received in transportation medium should be washed three times using Michel»s buffer (Washing solution (10 minutes for each wash). FISH studies are not appropriate.
