The Edwards STPA803CV (TMS) DN160CF Inlet vacuum pump is an oil-free turbomolecular pump with a magnetically suspended rotor. The pump implements two pumping mechanisms: turbomolecular and molecular (due to the Holweck stage). A thin nickel-based protective layer is applied to the rotor surface, which prevents the destructive effects of aggressive substances on the materials from which the rotor is made, and also minimizes its abrasive damage.
